Hi, I'm Simon Yau
I was born and raised in Hong Kong, where I studied Information Engineering at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. I have been into computers for about as long as I can remember. The kind of enthusiasm that, back at university, had me printing out the Linux kernel source just to sit and read it on paper.
In 2021 I moved to the UK. These days I am a software engineer, a father of two lovely children, and still as curious about how things work as I was then.
What pulls at me most right now is AI, and specifically what one person can build alone when a model handles a lot of the heavy lifting. So I build tools to find out. Some are for working alongside coding agents: seeing what they actually do, and coordinating several at once. The most recent is a small read-only assistant that tracks a UK company's Companies House deadlines, which started as a fix for my own company's admin. I tend to build the smallest useful version, run it against my own work, and only grow the parts that keep earning their place.
This site is where I write about what I learn and keep the projects I have built.
